Kid-friendly children’s book printing

I have seen a huge emergence of the eco-friendly and safety-minded print-buyer in the last few years. Nowhere is this more the case than in the children’s book printing market. One of the most frequent questions I am asked by publishers is if G-Print uses SOY INKS when printing children’s books.
Soy-based inks are used for the simple reason that they are not petroleum-based and therefore are better for the environment, as well as being much safer for the reader to handle. I know when my kids were little, they preferred chewing books to reading them.
The reason commercial printers use soy inks and vegetable products is because of the pigmentation they produce. In my research, I’ve come across several different types of natural-based inks. Some of the more popular are flaxseed, canola and castor just to name a few. I think the reason that soy is so popular is because it’s has been well-tested and is considered to be a much more stable product. I’ve also read article noting various ink manufacturers using blends of various different natural oils and pigments to create their final product.
When investigating book printing in China, I found very few plants willing to take the time to learn to work with soy-based ink. I am proud to say the G-Print International only works with plants who have embraced soy-based technology and will continue to do so.
Happy (and safe) reading everybody!
