AKA: Flexi-binding / Dutch binding
This is a binding technique whose popularity is definitely growing in 2015, at least here at G-Print. It’s somewhere in between paperback books (also called perfect-bound) and hardback binding (aka: hardcover or case-bound). You wind up with a flexible cover, endsheets and your inside text of course. The covers will usually be laminated and bound with a round-backed spine, which allows the book to open fairly flat.
BENEFITS: Our flexi-binding service is a less expensive option than hardback binding, but offers a higher perceived value than a traditional paperback. It is a perfect format when publishing a limited edition softcover. It also offers better protection for the inside text pages than does perfect binding.
CONSTRUCTION: With Flexi-binding, the cover is made with Art Board, with lighter endpaper stock glued to the inside front and back covers much like a casebound book, only it does not employ a rigid inner board. We add a decorative head and tail-band to the text block to help create a nicely “detailed” look for their published products. They find their customers also love such unique details of our work.
